Our races are divided into settlements.  High Elves (based on Tolkien) live in the city of Neivar atop Mt. Earamore and are the guardians of the gate to the enchanted land of Glenhaven.  Glenhaven is the home of woodland elves, seelie fae, hobbits, centaurs, satyrs, and fauns.  Beyond Mt. Earamore are two human settlements.  In the lowlands is the gaelic village of Maree.  In the darklands are the Vikings of Aisengaad.  Towering over Aisengaad is a massive black crag.  The upper caves are inhabited by the dragons of Drakkengaurd while the lower caves are inhabited by the Drow of Unra’eth.  On the opposite side of the base of the crag is the mage city of Arcania which serves as the seat of the First Wizard.  We have a host of guild groups which include mages, healers, rangers, bards, scribes, Knights, Workers, Ladies in Waiting, and a few OOC groups such as American Event Planners, European Event Planners, and our Academy Instructors.

Vindarkis

The parent Roleplay sim for Tir na Bandia will get its own little spotlight, normally I’ll do one a day, but since these two are essentially the sim chain of sims, they get to go together.  After a few of these have been published, I’ll also go about touring the sims spotlighted to give a more visual perspective and feel for the sims for various players.

I thought I’d take this first post to introduce myself and explain what the series of posts I’ll be adding will be about.

Heyla.  My name is Bink Wylder.  I’m an avid roleplayer of SL that throughout its years have been in SL since 2005.  Long time, I know.  A large part of that has been spent in the Medieval Roleplay sims known together as Ambrea.  I currently still remain in Ambrea, both as a roleplayer, a faction leader, and Admin.  My specialties lie in roleplaying plots and monitoring the factions/guilds/clans of Ambrea.

but this whole thing isn’t just about Ambrea.  it’s about all Medieval sims.

To start the Story…Tuesday, i was listening to my group Ims as usual, and I noticed something on the Roleplay Network about Medieval sims, so I focused in on it, and got the beginning of someone asking for reps of medieval sims.

It turned out the person wanted to find interested sims to start forging intersim RP between Medieval Fantasy RP sims, that would host ‘guests’ from else where for specific types of Rp, liek trade, wars, festivals, travelling bards etc.

So, I signed up for the meeting and let myyst know about it.

So tonight, Myself, Rave and Myyst (two of the three sim owners for AMbrea) show up in Dee with this huge gathering of Medieval sim reps (36 in total).  that is a massive success for something that only started out 5 people strong!

from this meeting, Jadzia graciously offered the blog to be a center point from that, so throughout the upcoming months, there will b blog posts on participating medieval sims and all the roleplays their into, descriptions on the, the works.  There will be posting of intersim Roleplay ideas to be brought up and that are currently in play.  Updates on meetings of leaders too will be posted for viewing.  All in the efforts to continue to love of the medieval and the roleplay within Second Life.  as things take off, I hope the information can spread, so with your patience, let us embark on this new turnabout for the Medieval times within Second Life, together.

A New Valahari…

You have probably noticed my posts have slowed down and I haven’t been sending out the event calendar the last couple of days.

Well, I have been super busy!  😛

My dear friend, Elizaveta Larkham, left Second Life (more or less) over a year ago and left her sim, Valahari, in the hands of a manager who in return has recently left Second Life as well.

After some careful consideration, I have agreed to purchase Valahari.  My plan is to work hard to maintain a stable transition and keep the spirit that already exists alive.  Of course, having a different management style and different interests than the previous manager, makes this a challenge  🙂

Hopefully, we will be working together to make some positive changes.  We have already introduced a new human village based on the Gaelic culture of the Highlands of Scotland which has proven to be a major attraction.  We are also going to be introducing a combat meter into role-play on a limited basis… most likely Spell Fire.

Over all, however, I hope that the factions will choose to continue their autonomy as we work together to make Valahari an even more amazing sim!

I guess you could say I was inspired by Annie Ibanez of Mystara!

I recently put together a small farmstead in Tir Tairngiri of Eternity. With the help of Mila Vendetta’s awesome creations at Fatale, I have a beautifully rustic little farm. But…

How can one shovel manure… bail hay… and feed the chickens!? In a fancy elven dress!? Not!!!

So… I had to look to none other than Annie Ibanez for inspiritation.

With a little bit of searching on the new SL Marketplace, I was able to find a totally awesome dress by ViGo’s Vilandra Miles, called Gwyn. The outfit is total and complete! It includes the overdress, underskirt, and blouse as well as boots and a complimentary necklace!

Of course, the dress by itself is too neat and perty to use on a farm. So, I had to slum it up a bit with a few accessories. I started off with an apron I already had in my inventory from a “Baker Dress” by Adelyn Hansen. And finished off the look with the “Baker’s Hat” by Levia Larsson of Knickknack (coincidentally also available at the ViGo sim).

For the finishing touch, I still needed some dirt! After an exhaustive search on the marketplace, I was left wanting and decided to turn to GIMP! After about 10 minutes or so… wallah! I had a face tattoo that spotted a bit of dirt on my cheek, chin, and brow. And! I had filthy hands with quite a bit of dirt and grime under my nails!

Look out Annie!! You’ve got competition! :p

P.S.  Here’s a shamelss plug  :p   Both the dirty face tattoo and the dirty hands gloves are available for 25L in the SL Marketplace.  If you would like to buy the dirty face tattoo, you can click here.  You can buy the dirty hands here.  🙂

Sew & Gossip

Ladies are cordially invited to…

     …Sew & Gossip!

Sew & Gossip is an IC gathering of lady folk at a dress and fabric shop located on my farmstead in Eternity.  Please bring yourself and your friends to an hour of… well… sewing and gossiping  :p  In character of course.

Tea & Animations provided.  (Crumpets too if I can get them made in time :P)

Every Tuesday
   at 5pm SLT

   At Maple Grove in Eternity

As always, Have Fun!
Jadzia Dufaux

P.S.  For those of you, like me, who like to travel on foot…

Head north to Tir Tairngiri.  Follow the shoreline to the Cleric’s Guild.  Just beyond the guild, but before you reach Isolde’s Castle, you will see an old archway of sorts.  That’s my farmstead, Maple Grove.  The dress shop is in the main cottage at the back of the grove.

Have you met the femme fatale? If not, you’re missing out! Mila Vendetta is the owner of Fatale and is one of the best creators of rustic buildings, chores, and more in Second Life!

I went on a shopping spree this weekend for my new homestead and spent more lindens than I care to admit. The bulk of those lindens were spent at Fatale. In fact, every building on my farm and nearly every chore in my kitchen and sewing room were created by Mila Vendetta!

Her creations are highly detailed with realistic textures. Her collections of sculpted prims result in well balanced, intricate creations.

And not only is this femme fatale gifted artistically, she’s gifted with great customer service!

I purchased a transferable item from her which is no copy, for obvious reasons. While I was applying a new thread texture to my loom, I missed my target and slapped my threads on my bedroom wall! Yikes!

Though the error was entirely of my own doing, I dropped a quick notecard off in her inventory and pleaded with her for mercy :). I asked her if I gave her mod rights on my prims, if she would come by and slap her texture back on my wall. That was about 20 minutes before I went to bed.

When I got up in the morning… I found a new cottage waiting for me! A gift from Mila Vendetta… how awesome is that!?

 Thank you Mila!

Within several days of our departure from Annon, our ship became enshrouded in a curious mist which obscured both sea and sky.  The winds that had once filled our sails grew still and the waves of the ocean fell to an eerie calm.  Unable to advance on our course, we remained adrift for twelve days.

On the thirteenth day, the mist finally began to clear.  As the vapors slowly receded, many of us gathered on the deck to get a glimpse of the nearly forgotten blue skies.  All were in awe as the fogs seemed to magically scroll away, revealing an enchanted island.

The mild current that cradled the old boat, drifted us directly into a small port where we set anchor.  Though the captain admonished us to remain on-board, most of us were eager to feel solid land beneath our feet.  I personally took advantage of the opportunity to go into the marketplace and barter for some fresh vegetables.

As I passed down a narrow street-way, I found myself face to face with the filthiest bar wench one could imagine.  The stench of stale ale announced her foreboding approach before she rounded the corner of the opposing entryway.  I quickly slowed my breathing to spare my senses from the onslaught of her putrid odor.  This woman was squalid even by human standards.  Her body was so infested with fleas that the parasites could be seen crawling throughout her clothing, hair, and flesh.  Her hair was matted and her skin clearly covered from head to toe with sweat, dirt, and grime.

She smiled as I approached and the few teeth which she had managed to retain were visibly rotten.  Yet, I was surprised to find this human monstrosity to be quite cordial.  She recognized immediately that I was “newly summoned to the island”.  She welcomed me to this strange haven and assured me that my presence there was no accident.  I was on the isle of Mystara… an etheric realm hidden from the outer world by a magical mist.  The woman, called Annie, explained that no one ever finds Mystara except those who are beckoned to her shores.

After an unexpectedly charming, although rather odorous, conversation with Annie, I continued to travel about the island.  I saw creatures of every sort, many of which I did not  recognize.  The island was covered with winding paths that meandered through lush forests and along cascading streams of crystal water teaming with merfolk.  The inhabitants were indeed friendly and the population was quite dense.  I don’t believe I had ever seen so many creatures in one place before.

The entire realm was filled with enchanted vistas and creative surprises lurked around every corner.  The merfolk lived within a labyrinth of ornate tunnels and caves. Creatures of the dark roamed a network of underworld caverns.  The fae and those who walked the lands enjoyed glens and marshes painted with an infinite variety of fauna.

All who journeyed through the mystic gardens of Mystara were enchanted by her unique charms.  Yet by nightfall, our ship was set to depart from the island.  Though we were reluctant to leave this paradise of respite, we made our way back to the docks upon the captain’s call.  And without further adieu, the crew cast off.

OOC

I had a fantastic interview with Annie Ibanez last week in Mystara.  Annie is the owner and creator of Mystara, one of the most active fantasy sims on the grid with daily traffic ranging between 25,000 and 39,000 daily.

Annie, herself, is one of the most sociable, friendly, and down-to-earth people I have met in Second Life.  In Mystara she plays a low life, flea infested, filthy, stinking, wench.  In fact, during the interview, my character had to stand several paces up wind just to avoid the stench and any possibility of infestation.  :p

In real life, Annie has worked in video game development for over seven years.  About four or five years ago, a colleague of hers downloaded Second Life and encouraged her to join.  Being more of a console gamer, she was initially resistant but eventually became interested in Second Life for its social aspects.

Being a fan of groups like Manowar, Iron Maiden, and Amon Amarth, Annie’s introduction to SL was the heavy metal scene where she discovered a sim called Wheeler.  Wheeler was a roleplay sim with a dark gothic castle which served as a heavy metal club with live Djs..  While socializing at the club, Annie quickly noticed many of the members enjoyed dressing up in medieval costumes and roleplaying.  By her second day, Annie had purchased her first wench outfit.

Annie says she chose to roleplay a wench because “something about the earthy, low class, proletariat of the time appealed to me”.  She says, “A wench can have matted hair, bad teeth, smell of pork and stale beer, but she can also be an angel of comfort to the weary man.  A warm smile, an ample bosom, a quick wit, and willingness to make a man feel “at home” are the traits of a wench that I find admirable.”

She admits, “It’s also kind of humbling and I’ve always wanted to be different. I didn’t want to be a warrior, or a beautiful maiden, or a queen.  So in my flea-bitten rags I guess I stand out. :)”

Annie’s portrayal of a wench didn’t begin with Second Life though.  In addition to dressing in her wench attire twice for Halloween, Annie has several close friends who are members of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and has attended a number of their events.

For those who are unfamiliar with the SCA, it is a world-wide organization which originated at Berkeley and is devoted to the accurate preservation, re-creation, and research of the medieval culture and sciences.  They host innumerable events world wide but rarely advertise them.  In all likelihood, there are weekly events in your own town that you have never heard of… they are very worth checking out at www.sca.org.

Back to Annie, our favorite wench…

Inititally, Annie purchased half of a sim from a holding company called “Horizons Estates”.  Her vision was simply to build her own little fantasy world and she had no intention of introducing roleplay.  She simply wanted to have a project to keep her busy and to create something beautiful.

A few months after her purchase, a group of roleplayers purchased the other half of her sim and began building their own roleplay realm, Uialom.  The owners of Uialom and Annie quickly became friends.  Annie admired their work and even assisted them with terraforming their half of the sim.  As the roleplay community grew, Annie offered her half of the sim for use by the Uialom community and became an active roleplayer herself.

One of the original founders of Uialom eventually lost interest in fantasy roleplay and peacefully migrated to Gorean RP.  The dissolution of that partnership led to a new alliance between the remaining owner, Sorcha Irelund, and Annie.  Mystara was born.

As Sorcha became increasingly busy in real life as a teacher and touring broadway actress, she stepped down from her position and left Annie as the sole owner of Mystara.

As a founding creator of Mystara, Annie has loved seeing the Mystara family enjoy themselves.  And with the help of a great admin team, she has been able to the meet the challenges of her high traffic and the needs of the many new players who discover Mystara.

If you are looking for a roleplay sim with true heart and soul, Mystara is for you.
